Our Story
Our journey began when our founder, Cindy Straub, did her first professional show with Tommy Tune. As you can see from the picture here, she was ecstatic to have landed her first professional show dancing alongside one of her favorite performers.
In this show, Cindy was taught to perform using an on stage spacing system. As she continued her professional career, she realized the importance of precise spacing on stage. After 9 years of performing professionally, she decided that her real passion was training and developing young performers.
She decided to open a dance studio and began her career as a dance instructor/choreographer. She never lost her passion for theatre as she continued to choreograph and direct for professional productions, show choirs, high schools and community theatre.
While choreographing she was craving a spacing system. She put her creative brain to work and came up with a plan to be able to transport her spacing system anywhere she went. The problem was she had no way to make it.
Luckily, Cindy randomly reconnected with a childhood friend who now runs a state of the art manufacturing facility. When she learned he did this, she jokingly asked if he could develop a product for her that would do all of the things she needed and to her surprise he said "absolutely!"
They spent the next couple of years perfecting what is today known as The Performer's Grid! In addition to the number line across the front of the stage, she created the "depth chart" to set a new system for placing performers on stage. Cindy was adamant that she not bring the product to market until it was as close to perfect as humanly possible.
In the meantime, Cindy and others have successfully used The Performer's Grid in numerous productions. She is so excited to be able to share this tool with you and your creative team and hope that it saves you the hundreds of hours of work that it has saved her and the teams that she has worked with.
